DRIVERS OVER 70.
TESTS BEFORE RENEWAL OF
LICENSE.
Christchurch, June 30.
Elderly drivers in future will have to submit to fresh tests after reaching' the age of 1 0, accoiding to a traffic committee report received by the City Council last night. The committee reported that its attention had been drawn to the fact that there was a large number' of elderly drivers who had obtained driving licenses and had passed the necessary tests some years ago, but Avho had not been subject to test when renewing their licenses. It was possible that some of these drivers were not physically fit to drive, and instruction had been issued to subject drivers over seventy applying for a fresh driving test, including slight and hearing tests as laid down in the Motor Vehicles Act, If the applicants failed to comply with the standard required their licenses would not be renewed unless a medical certificate as provided for under the Motor Vehicles Act was presented.
