KIPLING’S FUNERAL.

MINIMUM OF CEREMONY.

London, January 23

Mr. Rudyard Kipling’s funeral service at Westminster Abbey was conducted with a minimum of pomp and ceremony and was attended by statesmen, writers, high officers of the fighting services, representatives of the Dominions, including the Agents-General, foreign diplomats, and poets. The ashes lay beneath a Union Jack on which rested two simple wreaths. Mrs Kipling was a tragic figure. The congregation sung Kipling’s own Recessional. The poet is buried next to Thomas Hardy and near Charles Dickens.
