MEMBER FOR DISTRICT, HONOURED.

PRESENTATION TO MR C. L. HUNTER.

The members of the Wellington Tramway Union attended in large numbers at St. Anne’s Hall, NeivtoAvn, Wellington, recently to congratulate one of their number on his having been elected member of Parliament for the MauaAvatu electorate.

Mi- C. L. Hunter, M.P-, was the guest of the evening and he and Mrs Hunter were enthusiastically receded on entering the hall. During the evening, Mr €. S. Morton, president of the union, presented Mr Hunter Avith a well-filled Avallet, which had been freely subscribed to by members of the union. In making the presentation, Mr Morton gave a resume of Mr Hunter’s activities during his 13 years as a member of the union, most of the time being in an executive position, Avith three years as president. The hard Avork and enthusiasm displayed by Mr Hunter Avas fully appreciated by the members, and had laid the foundation of life-long friendships. The union had greatly benefitted by Mi- Hunter’s membership because of his honesty, his strict attention to details, and his ability to do the right thing at the right time. The members regretted iosing Mr Hunter as a member, but Avere delighted to knoiv that he Avas taking up a position Avhere his ability would be of great service to the community. Mrs Hunter ivas presented with a bouquet by Miss Irene Smith. Mr Hunter was greeted with great enthusiasm and musical- honours. He thanked those present for the vex’y hearty reception, and assured them that he Avould long remember the occasion. He had always enjoyed the Avork connected with the union, and he was delighted to think that, in spite of the many differences of opinion, he ivas still regarded as a friend.

Mr Wl Broadlev, secretary of the union, said that, if Mr Hunter put the same enthusiasm into the work of Parliament as he had done in the union, the electors of the Manawatu district Avould have no hesitation in returning him in future. r A

Mr and Mrs Hunter have now taken up their residence in Kent St., 8 Levin.
