RACING.

The Canterbury Joclkey Club’s Metropolitan meeting was continued at Christchurch yesterday when rain fell all day. The attendance was fair and. the track slow. The investments amounted to £22,670 for eight races, as compared with £20,764 for seven races on the corresponding day last year. The -New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s meeting opened at Christchurch on Tuesday in wet weather. The track, as a result was very heavy. The totalisator handled £36,780 10/- for the day compared with £42,363 10/- for the same day last year, . It was announced at a meeting of the Marton Jockey Club yesterday by the president, Mr H. J. McManaway, that the Governor-Gen-eral, Lord Galway, had advised that he would endeavour to attend the second day of the club’s meeting on January 2 to present the Duke of Gloucester Cup to the winning owner.
