THE LATE MR MAIRS.

“He was a good man.” These words formed the basis of an eloquent panegyric delivered by the Rev. C. W. Brown at the memorial service to the late Mr P. J. Mairs in the Methodist Church on Sunday morning. The text was taken from Luke 23-50. The preacher likened Mr Mairs in character to Joseph of Arimathaea. The preacher reviewed the work of Mr Mairs in connection with lffs Christian ministry and as a citizen and liome-lov-ing and affectionate parent, and his love for children and the beauties of nature. Wherever the late All' Mairs had resided and laboured he had left the impress and inspiration for a fuller Christian outlook. The hymns sung were those which were favourites with the late Mr Mairs. Among those present at the service were representatives of other denominations.

Special reference was also made at the local Prsebyterian Church by the Rev. Mr Fotheriugham on Sunday evening, and appreciation acknowledged of the services the late Air Mairs had willingly rendered to that denomination and the sympathy of the congregation extended to the bereaved family.
