PRESENTATION OF REV. A. FOTHERINGHAM.

Last Thursday evening a large representative gathering of tlie_ Presbyterian Church held a social evening at the Shannon manse. At a suitable stage of the festivities, Mr Clayton presented the Rev. A. Fotheringham with a barometei*. In a speech, tingled with many humorous remarks, he said it was the wish of members of the church to present this gift to their minister as a token of their appreciation of his good work: and many services. He wished especially to thank Mr Fotheringham for his travel talks on India and Nvasaland which he had given during the winters of the last two years, and to assure him they had by on highly appreciated by all who had been privileged to hear them. On accepting the gift, Mr Fotheringham said it was with great difficulty he was able to reply, as he found it beyond him to express in mere words' how he felt at that moment. He assured them that his work among them, though arduous and sometimes difficult, had always been a pleasure and it was such little deeds of thoughtfulness like this that carried one over the last long mile. After competitions, games, musical items and supper, a most happy and enjoyable evening closed with the benediction.
