ROYAL JUBILEE.

SPECIAL STAMP ISSUES,

USE THROUGHOUT EMPIRE,

More than 100 different kinds of postage stamps are being designed in Great Britain for issue next year to commemorate the King’s Silver Jubilee.

On the stamps to be issued in the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland the portrait of the Queen will, for the first time, appear with that of the King. Both heads will be crowned, and underneath will appear “Silver Jubilee,” the official title approved by the King for the year 1935. Each Dominion and self-govern-ing colony of the British Crown, from territories as large as continents to little Pacific islands, will have its own Jubilee stamp. The designs are now being made in England. The stamps will be oblong in shape, each showing a landscape of the place they represent. Superimposed on the top comers will be the Royal cyphers “G.R.” and “M.R.,” surmoimted by the crown. The name of the colony will be reproduced on each side. Underneath will be the inscription, “Silver Jubilee.” This is the favoured design. But many others are being considered. The Dominions are to make their Jubilee stamps themselves. The Viceroy of India has decided to strike a special Jubilee medal, showing the heads of the King-and Queen on one side, and' on the other inscriptions in the' chief languages of India as to the meaning of the medal. , The Admiralty will send a warship to 100 lonely Scottish families on the island of Tristan do Cunha, in the South Atlantic. The ship will arrive on May 6, Jubilee Day, with provisions, clothes, a message from the King—and a new Union Jack. To all lonely British settlements in the Pacific and Atlantic warships will be sent with supplies.
