WINNER OF £12,000.
WAIROA MAN’S GOOD FORTUNE The ,holder 0 f the ticket which won the first prize of £12,000 in a consultation recently drawn at Hobart, Tasmania, is Mr Jacfk Dovane, aged 23 years, single, who has recently been engaged in farm work in the Ruakituri Valley, in the Wairoa district. 'During the past week several rumours have been spread regarding the identity of the first-prize winner, but it was not until late on Saturday, when a further batch of tickets in the consultation arrived in Wairoa, that the name of the winner was revealed'. Several residents opened their envelopes with tense anticipation as to the result, but it was for Mr Devane to find the lucky number, 160,475, on his ticket. The actual result slips have not yet come to hand, but Mr Devane holds the ticket with the number which Avas cabled from Tasmania as the Avinner of the consultation. Mi’. Devane, Avho was lately Avorldng for Mr J. I*. Spence, of Ruakituri, has taken his good fortune calmly. His plans for the immediate future are not definite. The ticket was the first Avhich he had ever held by himself, although he had on previous occasions held interests in tickets purchased by syndicates.
