FIREWORKS EXPLODE

IGNITED BY SUN’S RAYS

A premature display of fireworks was caused at a shop occupied in Grey Lynn, Auckland, yesterday afternoon, when a quant it} 7 of fireworks was set alight by the sun shining through a window. The fireworks had. been, piled on a ledge near the window of a room at the hack of the shop, preparatory to being displayed. Within a few minutes from the time the first firework caught -alight about £l2 worth had been destroyed, those which did not explode being ruined by water. The outbreak was quickly subdued by,Western Suburbs and Central brigades. Damage was confined to broken windows and a few lining hoards, apart from the loss of the fireworks.
