SEPTEMBER GRADING RETURNS.

The grading returns for hemp, tow, stripper-tow and stripper slips for the month of September have been issued by the Department of

Bluff were rejected. One hale at Wellington was condemned. The number of bales in each grade was as follows, the for the corresponding period last year being- given in parenthesis :-V' Good Fair 23 (121), High Fair 400 (623), Low Fair 257 (172). Common 397 (631), Rejected 81 (169), Condemned 1 (13), a total of 1159 bales as against 1729 bales gradted the same period last year, a decrease of 570 hales. The number of bales graded at each port was as follows: — Auckland 151, Wellington 563, Bluff 445. The following shows the detailed particulars of the tow graded:—

The following shows the number of bales in each grade, the number for the corresponding period last year being given in parenthesis:— Ist grade 3 (4); 2nd grade 337 (69); 3rd grade 10 (87), condemned 4 (11), a total of 354 (171), an increase of 180 bales.

No stripper tow or stripper slips were graded.

The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram, dated 6th October, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London:— Hemp.—Manila: Market continues quiet. Value “K” grade - for Oetober-December shipment £l2 15/-. Sisal: Market quiet but steady. Values for OetoberDecember shipment £l3 15/-. New Zealand.—Market quiet with small business done. Fair grade for October-November -■ shipment £l3.
