PRINCE HENRY ARRIVES IN AUSTRALIA.
ROUSING WELCOMES AT FREMANTLE AND PERTH. Pvinc-e Henry received a rousing' reception on his first landing on Australian soil at Perth on Thursday. Thousands lined the waterfront from dawn onwards. The Sussex berthed at daylight and was greeted by a salute of 21 guns from the Australian cruisers, the Canberra and tbe Australia. There was tumultuous cheering when the soldierly figure of the Duke appeared on the bridge. He was received by the Lieutenant-Go-vernor (Sir James Mitchell). The first address of welcome was presented hv the Mayor of- Fremantle and then came an address from the municipality of Collie, brought by relays of amateur runners 140 miles, running overnight. The Royal progress by car from Fremantle to Perth was marked by scenes of great enthusiasm. Prince Henry was the central figure at an impressive ceremony at the State War Memorial, King’s Park, at noon, where in the presence of 40,000 people he placed a wreath on the memorial and received an address of Avelcome and loyalty to the Crown from the City of Perth, which was fittingly acknowledged. Prince Henry’s speech was heard clearly by wireless in all parts of Australia. Prince Henry afterwards motored slowly through lanes of cheering people to Government house, and in the afternoon he attended and opened- the Royal Show.
