RESERVE BANK NOTES
LACK OF DURABILITY.
An inquiry into a complaint that trading banks were acting unreasonably in refusing to accept Reserve Bank notes if not wholly intact was sought by Mr E. F. Healy (Govt., Wairau), in a question he asfeed the Minister of Finance, Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates, in the House of Representatives yesterday. Mr .Healy said a local body official had written to him as follows : —“Many complaints are being made about Reserve Bank notes, which tear easily, and which trading banks will not accept if at all mutilated. We to-day presented a Reserve Bank note, in good order, both numbers intact, but having one of the corners torn off. The bank refused to accept it, stating it would be sent to Wellington for examination.”
Mr. Coates said the complaint was a matter which concerned the Reserve Bank. He would he pleased to pass Mr Healv’s representations on to the hank.
