FOXTON RELIEF WORKERS ASSOCIATION.

. At last night’s meeting of the Foxton Unemployment Committee a letter was received from W. Francis, secretary of the Foxton Relief Wforkers Association, notifying the committee that the Association comprised Messrs E. G. Martin (Chairman), J. Madden, S. Mansell, A. Rouse, N. Pratt, "C. Nicolson, G. Thompson, G. Edwards and W. Andresen.

The Chairman (Mr. M. E. Perreau) said that he did not see that the letter concerned the committee. The committee was set up merely as a buffer between the Unemployment Board and the relief workers. Tie did not see that it was necessary to recognise any such body as the Relief Workers Association. He asked if all the relief workers were members of the Association or whether it represented only a section of the community.

Mr. F. Shaw stated that at the first meeting of the Association there had been an attendance of something like 100 relief workers. Mr. R. Owen pointed out that when the committee was set up it had been done for the sole purpose of acting entirely under the Unemployment Board. Mr. 0. Dawson: And in the interests of the workers. Mr. Owen: Yes. They are entitled to send along a deputation on any matter they think fit. We will not object to receiving them.

Mr. J. Johnson considered the Association could be of great assistance to the committee, especially in cases where there were violations of the committee’s rules. There were Ibound to be such cases, he said, and the Association would possibly get to know of them much sooner than the committee. • The 'Chairman: If they can assist us well and good.

Mr. R. Owen: We would certainly appreciate the assistance of the ,Relief Workers Association or anyone else.

The Chairman pointed out that it was the duty of everyone to see that the rules were adhered to and the instructions of the Board carried out and to report an abuse. The letter was received.
