HOROWHENUA RUGBY COUNCIL MEETING.
FOXTON AWARDED WIN OVER
KERERU
Writing with reference to the junior fixture, Kereru y. Foxton, in which the referee had allowed the latter team to kick off in the absence of a number of Kereru players, Air. P. AfcGregor (Kereru secretary) stated at Tuesday night’s meeting of the Horowhenua Rugby Council that more than half of his team had been in Foxton, but the other members had been waiting along the road. Howard Nicholson was going to pick them up, but he had trouble with his motor. A bus with A. Croon in charge, was sent for them. The Foxton Club sent a bus to Whitaunui, but the visitors’ team were not in that locality.
Notice had been given by Mr. Robinson to move to rescind the resolution allowing the match to be re-played if it affected the championship. He now moved accordingly. In doing so, he said that by 1.40 p.m. Kereru had ten men on the field and they could have picked up substitutes for the remainder and have played the match. A wrong impression had been gained with regard to the bus that was sent out by the Foxton Club. It had been sent to pick up some members of the Foxton team. Mr. Rimmer seconded the motion, pro forma. Mr. Bishop said that the replaying of the game would not affect the championship. The motion rescinding the resolution was earned by five vtoes to three, and the game was awarded to Foxton. PLAYER ORDERED OFF. In his report on the senior game between Otaki and Foxton Fire Brigade, played at Otaki last Saturday, the referee (Mr. Rangi Broughton) stated that at about ten minutes before the call of time he ordered off Paddy Payne, of the visiting team. He had warned Payne three times on account of his disputing the referee’s rulings. The player was suspended until he appears before the committee. A FINE GAME.
Mr. D. Cole wrote that the junior match, Foxton v. Fire Brigade, was the best game he had controlled in this district, and it had provided the best exposition of the code that he had seen in junior football. REFEREES AND APPEALS.
In answer to a query by Mr. Maclean, the chairman stated that a club could appeal against a referee’s decision on a point of law.
