MAN WHO SAT BESIDE THE GOVERNOR.

Christchurch, August 10. Henry Hogan Foote, a man who caused a stir in Cathedral Square yesterday afternoon by taking a seat beside the Governor-General in the vice-regal car, was called on for an explanation in the Police Court this morning. In view of the fact that his Excellency had expressed a desire that the punishment should not be severe, Foote was convicted and discharged. A prohibition order was issued against him. Foote, who is a traveller, said that he had had some drinks and had intended to get the GovernorGeneral’s autograph. He meant no offence.
