“I put it to you,” said Counsel for plaintiff to defendant in a judgment summons ease, heard at a Northern Court recently, “if • you had not been a smoker for 50 year’s, as you say you have, you’d have been better off than you are?” Defendant- “You can’t have your cake and eat it too, mister,” he replied. “My pipe has been worth a lot more to me than the bit of money I’d have saved if I’d not been a smoker.” “But,” urged Counsel, “you’d not only have saved money, you’d have enjoyed better health?” “Don’t you worry about mv. health,” sneered defendant. “I’m in the pink.” Smoking don’t hurt me. Been smoking toasted New Zealand tobacco for years. The toasting works the nicotine out pf-it. It’s the finest tobacco in the world.” Counsel gave it up as a bad job! Defendant referred to the fourfamous brands: Riverhead Gold, Navy Cut No. 3, Cavendish and Cut Plug No. 10. These are the only toasted tobaccos manufactured, and their delicious flavour and delightful aroma appeal to all smokers. —253i i
