FIRE AT SEASIDE.

FIVE-ROOMED DWELLING DESTROYED. At an early hour this morning an unoccupied five-roomed dwelling was totally destroyed by fire at Manawatu Heads. The cause of the outbreak is a mystery, but the blaze was noticed by Mr. Phillips, who resides in a nearby residence, shortly after 2 a.m. The flames then had a strong hold and it was impossible, without any water supply, to do anything to save the building or contents. Mr. J. Wyeth (nightwatchman), noticed the outbreak while on duty in Main St, at the hour mentioned. The house belonged to Mr. D. Baker, of Palmerston North, and has been unoccupied for some time. It is understood the dwelling and furniture were covered by insurance, but the amounts are not yet available.
