FOXTON D.H SCHOOL.

COMMITTEE MEETING. The monthly meeting of the local D.H. School Committee was held last night, presided over by Mr. J. K. Hornblow (chairman). Also present were Messrs M. E. Perreau, Christie, Cowley, Huntley, Hutchins and the secretary (Mr. Roore Rangiheuea). Apologies for absence were received from Messrs Stevenson, John Ross and the headmaster (Mr. F. A. Mason). Correspondence was received from the Education Board forwarding refund of amount paid for water charge during building operations. —Received. From same re application for subsidy. —Received. From Borough Council enclosing grant re work on boundary betwee> High School and Ihakara Garden. — Resolved to forward a letter of thanks to 'the Council. The sub-committee reported that the turfing, levelling and concrete work at the high school grounds, undertaken by the committee on behalf of the Board had been completed, and carried out to the entire satisfaction of all concerned, and reflected credit upon the workmen. Approximately 168 tons of 4-inch turf was cut, carted and laid down. A dividing concrete wall 8 inches thick and 2ft. Gin. high had been constructed between the primary school playground and High School, and concrete paths and steps laid down. The total cost of the work would be approximately £l5O. —The report was adopted. Accounts amounting to £lO9 14s 5d were passed for payment. The chairman reported that the school funds would benefit to the extent of £SO odd from the sale of the old school residence. The Department had granted the committee this amount to be used for ground improvement purposes. A vote of thanks was passed to Mr. Mantell for the loan of timber for concreting purposes. The visitors (Messrs Christie and Hutchins) reported upon their inspection during the month. They recommended that steps be taken to improve the environment by garden plots and made other suggestions re the grounds. —It was decided to meet at the school at 4 p.m. on Friday, when a scheme of work would he discussed and adopted. Other matters of minor importance were discussed.
