DROWNING FATALITY.

Greymoulh, Last Night. The second drowning this week in the Greymouth River occurred about- 4 p.m. at Dobson, the victim being John Gibbs, coal miner, a new arrival from Scotland, 2li years of age. - Tic had.gone swimming with four others, crossing to the island in mid-stream. When returning to the bank, Gibbs disappeared. A man named Watkins was nearly drowned when attempting to rescue Gibbs, being pulled out just in time. Dragging operations failed to recover the body, which was probably carried down-stream. YOUTHFUL YACHTSMAN. DROWNED. Dunedin, December 28. A youth named Ray Simpson was drowned at Grassp Point, on the town side of Broad Bay this evening. Simpson was sailing the 12 footer Foam in company with another lad named Vie Hodge. Hodge went forward to attend to the spinnaker, leaving his companion in the stern, and next thing he knew was that the boat had capsized and they were in the water. They both struck out for the shore together and Simpson began to fall bade. Hodge believed him to be safe however, and struggled to safety in a state of exhaustion. In the men time Simpson had disappeared. The body lias not been recovered. It is not known where Simpson lived. He was employed by Mr. Charles Sundstrum, dentist.
