FOOTBALL.
At Tuesday night’s meeting of the Horowhenua Rugby Union, J. Hakaraia and R. Webbey, of Otaki Old Boys, were called upon for an explanation -of their conduct in the match with the Hui Mai club; as' this was not forthcoming, both players were suspended for the remainder of the season. Matters were considered in connection with the proposed match, Manawatu-Horowhenua v. Wellington on September 23, and a motion was carried that if the match is arranged, the game be played at Levin instead of Palmerston North, on the ground that Levin is more central and the fact that all previous combined matches have taken place in Palmerston, the Manawatu Union to be informed to this effect.
Mr Whibley gave notice of motion: That the motion passed at the last meeting in reference to rep. matches being played in Levin be l’escinded. The Manawatu Union has asked Horowhenua to play the return rep. match at Palmerston onMuly 22. Horowhenua should scrutinise very closely a suggestion for the amalgamation of the Manawatu and Horowhenua football districts (says the Chronicle). In connection With a communication previously received from the New Zealand Union with reference to boundaries and representation, the Manawatu Union has expressed the opinion that it is desirable that the’two unions amalgamate. It was agreed' that the Horowhenua Union be asked to appoint delegates to discuss , the proposal, either in Palmerston N., or Levin. If this means control from Palmerston or loss of Horowhenua’s identity, it should he strenuously resisted. On the other hand, some form of union might be advantageous in regard to the playing of representative matches.
