Ailio Nadi, the famous Italian fencing master, before going to Rio Janeiro, where he was offered.a professorship, has issued a challenge to the French expert, Jucien Gaudin in order to decide* finally their long standing rivalry. As, however, Signor Nadi risks the loss of his reputation in Brazil if he is defeated, he makes it a condition that there be a stake of 50,000 francs, 80 per cent, of which goes to the winner. M. Gaiidin is willing to accept, the challenge, 'although an amateur fencer he will hand any money he might win to the National Fencing Federation.
