Manawatu Herald THURSDAY, SEPTEMB. 29, 1921. WHO WELL HELP THE BOYS ?
ELSEWHERE in I his issue we publish a manly talk to boys by a medical expert, who spoke, plainly and tactfully, to his audience at Levin recently, upon a subject which is too often treated with unnecessary prudery. Our hoys would be benefitted morally and physically if similar addresses were given periodically by median] men—-who speak with authority —as opposed to wellmeaning but mnmby-pamby culminate individuals unable to win the confidence of young fellows during the most vital period of their lives. Not one father in a hundred undertakes this sacred duty, lie is either incapable, indifferent, or may be his own habits need reformation before he can point the better way. - How many boys have been wrecked morally and physically by the unclean speech and immoral acts of parents'? Is this an uncommon utterance: “What’s good enough for the ‘old man’ is good enough for me.” Example is better than precept. In this materialistic age parents should be aroused from money-grubbing idealism to a sense .of the sacred guardianship and moral welfare of their offspring. Many parents, alas, take a keener interest in the breed of the beast of: the field than they do in their own flesh and blood. Anyhow, we won’t moralise further, but suggest to the leader of the Foxton Boys’ Club —we believe it is still in existence —that a series of talks be arranged for their benefit.
