THE COMING CARNIVAL.

A meeting of members of the local Beautifying Society, representatives of Carnival Committees, and others interested, was held in All Saints’ Schoolroom last night. The Mayor (Mr John Chrystall) occupied the chair until the arrival of Mr Moorhouse, chairman of combined committees. Mr Roore, carnival secretary, read a detailed report, and minutes of previous meetings, which were confirmed. The printing of tickets, etc., was left in (lie hands of the Organiser and Art Union Committee.

The following nominations of queen candidates was confirmed: — Citizen’s Queen, Miss Thelma Ileasman. Fiber Queen, Mi** King. Sports Queen, Miss Healey. Farmers’ Queen, Miss Bowe. Maori Queen, Miss Makerika. Messrs Poole, Chrystall and Trueman were appointed a finance committee. The Chairman (Mr Moorehouse) to he ex-officio member of all committees.

The appointment of Mr Reid as organiser was confirmed and the remuneration fixed at 10 per cent, on the gross takings of the Carnival, subject to certain restrictions to he adjusted hv the Finance Committee. A motion fixing the Organiser's remuneration at £5 per week and 21 per cent, on the gross takings was defeated. Mr Trueman was appointed, subject to his consent, treasurer of (he Carnival, and if was decided to open an account at the Bank in resped to all Carnival funds, and that cheques in connection with same he signed by the Mayor and Treasurer.

The Organiser and Treasurer were appointed to supervise the counting of votes in connection with the Queen competitions. The Sports Committee was authorised to enlarge the scope of their programme. Various progress reports were received from sub-committees of a satisfactory nature. Other minor matters were discussed, and a vote of thanks to the Chairman terminated a most enthusiastic meeting.
