FOOTBALL.

On Tuesday night the members of (he local junior football team, together with the otlieials, were entertained at a dinner by Mr and Mrs J. "Walls. Mr E. D. Whihlcy presided, and after full justice had been done to the good things provided, Hie rest of the evening was occupied with toasts and vocal and instrumental items, in proposing the toast of “The Host and Hostess,” mention was made of the very keen interest taken in Hie welfare of Hie players by Mr and Mis Walls. The footballers this year had received natch encouragement from the public generally, and the season now drawing to a close had been one of I lie most successful ever experienced locally. The players appreciated way much Hie treatment they ipul received, and Hie only way they could repay same was by coat inning (o play the game in a clean and .-portsmanlike manner. Among other (oasts was (hat of Hie team's i-oacli, Mr -I. Desmond, proposed by Mr S. Austin, who referred to Hie very keen interest taken by Mr Desmond in the game. Much of the ,-uece-s of Hie team was due to the time and attention given the players by the coach, and the whole of Hie members appreciated very much what Mr Desmond bad done for litem. In replying. Mr Desmond -aid that his task had been a very light one, as lie had good material to -tart on. and the players were particularly keen, and rolled up to practice regularly. He was always only 100 pleased to do anything.he could to further Hie interests of football.'
