HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.
SPRING SHOW—THURSDAY & FRIDAY NEXT.
The local Society’s spring show will take place in the Coronation Town Hall on Thursday and Friday next. So far a lair number of entries in the various classes have been received and the recent fine weather should be responsible for large entries in cut blooms. There are extra classes this year for patriotic work and children’s cookery, a medal to be given in the latter class by Miss Una Carter, of Wellington, for most points in cookery from recipes given at her demonstration. This award will be supplemented by Society prizes. The school work this year constitutes a record. The show each year increases in popularity and its educational value is a fine asset to the town.
Apart from exhibits the usual competitions will be held each evening. The tea room will be supervised by Mrs Newth, while Mrs Woods will be in charge of the sweets stall.
The Borough Band will contribute selections each evening and orchestral items will be given by Mr Betty’s orchestra.
The entries close with the secretary at in o’clock this evening, late entries up to 9 o’clock tomorrow (Wednesday) evening. Some of the trophies are on view in Mr Patterson’s window and make a fine display.
