PRESBYTERIAN SOCIAL.

A very enjoyable social was held under the auspices of the Presbyterian Church, in the Masonic Hall, last night. There was a fair attendance. The programme submitted was varied and entertaining. The Rev. Mr Budd, of Feilding, during the course of the evening, delivered a very interesting and inspiring address on “Rutualism.” He spoke of the “ ruts ” so many people got into, to the detriment of their business, social, and spiritual life, and elaborated his address with many amusing illustrations. The address should leave an impression on every church member present. The Rev. Mr Aitken (Chairman) also delivered an address, and touched on the progress the Foxton charge had made during the past two years, quoting figures showing the increase in membership, etc. The programme consisted of a pianofote duet by Miss Furrie and Miss Bessie Speirs, items by Mr Betty’s glee party, vocal duet by Mesdames RaeHoward and Patterson, instrumental trio by Mrs Symons (piano) and the Misses Symons (violins) —this selection was a musical treat and had to be repeated; songs by Mrs Patterson, Miss Aitken, Messrs Wrigley, Rimmer and Hornblow, recitations by Mrs Stevenson, Misses Waldmanu and Foster (Gisborne), and a cornet solo by Mr A. Rimmer, quite a number of the items being vociferously encored. The accompaniments were played by Mrs P. H. Rat - Howard, Misses Doul, Furrie, Jenks. Votes of thanks were accorded all those who had assisted. The ladies of the congregation then handed round refreshments iu abundance, and the gathering was brought to a close with the singing of the Doxology.
