CRICKET.

SANSON v. FOXTON. On Saturday an eleven from the Sanson Cricket Club visited Foxton, and played a match with a local team. The game was to have started at n a.m., but at that time only three of the Foxton players had put in an appearance. Shortly after 12 o’clock, Foxton had mustered six, and it was decided to make a start. Sanson batted, and Foxton with the help of five Sanson men, was able to field a full team. At 1.30 p.m. an adjournment was made for lunch-, Sanson’s score then standing at 81 for four wickets. After lunch Foxton were able to make up a full team. Sanson continued batting until 3 p.m., when their captain decided to close the innings, as there was only an hour and threequarters left for play. The score then stood at 168 runs for seven wickets; Walters was the highest scorer, with a total of 80. He gave several chances towards the end of his innings, and was smartly stumped by Cook when stepping out to one of Baillie’s slows. The other double-figure scorers were Drew, 33 not out; Mclntyre 20 and the Rev. Carlisle 16.

Foxton opened their innings well, Baillie and Gordon scoring very fast, and put on 59 runs before a separation was effected, Gordon being caught in the long field. Noire of the other batsmen got into double figures, and at the time for drawing slumps the score read 101 runs for six wickets, Baillie carrying his bat for 56.
