Taft Elected.

New York, November 4. A remarkable heavy vote has been polled iu the United States. Ideal weather prevailed. All New York papers announce Mr Taft’s election. He carried the New England States by larger majorities than President Roosevelt obtained, including Boston, the Democratic stronghold. Mr Hitchcock, the chairman of the National Republican Convention, has sent congratulations to Mr Taft. London, November 4. The Times says that Mr W. H. Taft’s election is particularly welcome to Britishers, who believe that Mr Taft will continue to encourage increased cordiality with Britain, which President Roosevelt started. Mr Taft’s instalment of office will be a guarantee of the stability of the American foreign policy. New York, November 4. Mr Taft has been elected already on 298 votes of the Electoral College; 13 votes are still doubtful. Mr Taft’s plurality has exceeded President Roosevelt’s in New Jersey, New York, and Massachusetts, but shows a decrease in the Middle and West, where several democratic governors have been elected. Mr Bryan carried the solid South vote. Mr Taft’s plurality of the whole country is estimated at 1,091,000. The complexion of congress is unchanged. President Roosevelt telegraphed congratulations to Mr i'aft, who replied : “ This victory affirms your administration.” American railroad securities on the Stock Exchange show a brisk advance. The great excitement has recalled the boom known as ‘‘The Kaffir Circus.”
