CHARITY.
A Unique Begging Appeal. Mr G. W. Morgan, local manager for Messrs Levin and Co., has received the following begging appeal from Jerusalem, which we publish in the exact wording as it appears on the printed sheet. A crude wooden inkstand, which takes the form of a kneeling camel accompanies the appeal, as a memento: —•; Jerusalem Very Honoured Benefactor ! Please allow me, and excuse me, for troubling you as I know of your high manner and good conscience and that you have pity on the Holy Land, especially on widows and orphans, so I take the liberty of writing to you, for my wretchedness and misery, compells me to do so ! I am a poor widow of the late Rabbi David Nachman Kirschenbaum. It is several years that I am widow with orphans I was left in a terrible misery. I have no employment here whatever,. Especially for a poor widow with orphans there is nothirig to do here, The food is awfully dear here, I have no help from any one here, The children want to eat and I have nothing to give ; them!, Many a day can I. nothing to eat in my house, starvation is the master of my house, My heart • bleeds looking* at ; the wretchedness, of the poor orphans, my children ; Even the miserable furniture I had in my house was given away for food. Yet mote plague is it, when now the prices on all eatables have risen to double than before and the winter has also come, We are in . great need of winter clothes and winter blankets,, and with what can I save . them, my wretchedness forces me therefore to appeal to you sir, generous friend. I beg you therefore with many tears, that you with your noble conscience, and with your charitable heart, may give a little help fur my poor orphans, and assist us with ycur most charitable help in these days of hunger and cold, this act of kindness the Allmighty will help you and your gracious family in all your undertakings, and bless you with a long happy life.
