Asleep at his Post.
MARINE INQUIRY.
Sydney, June 19,
The inquiry has concluded into the collision on May 31st between the North Coast Steam Navigation Company’s steamer Electra, 395 tons, Captain Beach, and the tiig Energy, at North Head, when the tug was sunk and the Electra 90 iiiderably damaged. The finding of the Court is tha t the lights on the Energy were not burning brightly enough, and that, the deck-hand in charge of the- Energy failed to see the Electra, owing probably to being asleep at his post, the result being on duty an unreasonable long time. The captains of both the Electra and Energy are exonerated from blame. The Court is strongly of opinion that tugs should carry at least one certificated officer in addition to the master.
