J. A. Nash and Co.

From to-day (says the Manatfafiu Times Of yesterday), the oldestablished firm of F. Ireland and Go;, wholesale and retail nlefhanta of Palmerston North, will be conducted under the name of J. A. Nash and Co. The head Of the new firm is Mr James Alfred Nash,, who has been so long manager of the business. Mr Nash first joined the trade in 1882, when he entered the service of Messrs J. Nathan and Oo; at the Ready Money Store in Palmerston North) Which has since developed into that important institution, the XJ.F.C.A. After nine years’ service with that firm, Mr Nash accepted a position as manager for the late Mr F. Ireland, and since the death of that gentleman in 1893 has carried on the business for the executors of the estate. The busi« ness under Mr Nash’s watchful care has grown from small things to great, until the firm’s name has become a household word throughout the district. Under these circumstances it is not surprising to find that the executors were only too pleased to see the business pass into the hands of one who had been so largely concerned in building up its prosperity. During his long years of residence in the district, in which he has grown up from boyhood to manhood, Mr Nash has acquired a high reputation for business ability, upright dealing, and strictly honourable principles. His many friends will therefore be pleased to hear of the handsome reward he has obtained for his lengthy service with the late firm, and will wish him every success in his undertaking. Mr Porteous, who has so long been accountant to Ireland and Co., an'd who is a very popular figure in the establishment, will be associated with Mr Nash in partnership. Mr Porteous is highly esteemed by a wide circle of friends in Palmerston and the district, and the new firm will commence under the happiest auspices. The business will be conducted on the old lines, Mr Nash, as hitherto, retaining the active management.” [Mr Nash is a Foxton boy.]
