Admiral Sampson on Britain and America.

The London Times of March 22 has published a letter from a comapnndent in Bermuda, who describes R*ar-Admiral Sampson's visit there last month, and gives an " authorise d interview ' with the Admiral. Ac cording to the correspondent Admiral Sampson, remarking upon the " mar. Tellous change in American opinion," said : " Formerly England was regarded as the only European Power with which the United States was likely to have serious differences. Now, we regard England as our best perhaps our only friend. I cannot pay. whether this feeling will prove permanent, but I hopa it may. -*■ Possibly we could not hope for more than England's moral support, in the first instance, in any conflict with a Continental Power; but in times of real difficulty U would ripen sor.ner or latter, into a defensive

alliance. I cay frankly that in my opinion the United States has more to gain from such an alliance than England ha§. Then-fore, I rejoice at the change of eentiment in the United States. I am not leas gratified that no euch change is needed in Great Britain, and if any words of mine can cement a friendship calculated to bent fit the whole world it ia a pleasure to myself and a duty to my country to utter them"
