Polo.

Yesterday afternoon two matchea were played between the first and atoond teams of tha Oroua and R&ngitike Clubs. The wind was very high, causing but a small attendance of spectators and making the play difficult. We never saw the ball to often missed as it was yesterday, The first teams went in first and were as follows :- Rangitikei : H. Wilson 1, Riddiford 2, K. Dal rymple 8, and N. Wilson 4 ; colours, white with gold sash and cap. Oroua : A. and J. Strang 1 and 2, 0. Robinson 3, and J. McLennan 4 ; colours, white with maroon sash and cap, The game was for six tenminute spells. The play, owing to the wind, was not exciting, there being but few good hits and in few oases well followed up. Both teams experienced the inconvenience of the gale. The first spell opened brilliantly for the Orouas, as Robinson scored a goal within three minutes of starting, and in a couple of minutes more the same team Bcored another, by whom hit we were unable to ascertain. This spell ended by the scores being Oroua 2, Rangitikei 0. In the second spell Riddiford for the Rangitikei's got a goal, and there was a good attempt made at another score. The spell ended Oroua 2, Rangitikei 1. There was no scoring in the third spell. The fourth spell was the bust of the match. Immediately at the start the ball wae taken down the field by the Strang'B in a bit of their usual style, and quickly converted into a gaol by 0. Robinson, This made the score Oroua 3, Rangitikei 1. Matters began to look serious for Rangitikei, but they put in some excellent work and made a grand rush down the ground, Riddiford hitting the goal. This made Oroua S, Rangitikei 2, and the game ended thus, as in the last two spells no scores were made.

The second teams then took the field, Rangitikei having R, Wilson 1, E. Keiller 2, T. Willis 8, and A. Eeiller 4. Oroua, Baldwin 1, W. Strong 2, B. Gower 8, and Webb 4. This game was for four spells only, time not allowing for a longer game, which was a pity, as it was only at the last spell either team scored. We think the Rangitikei team was the best, not from their having won, but they seemed more at home at their work, and moved together. The last spell opened by Gower flooring at once for the Orouaß, and to make matters equal Willis for Rangitikei almost at once scored in return. .The Rangitikei's put on a fine rush and scored again, Eeiller bitting the ball through the.po9ts, and in a few minutes Gower got a gaol for his side. The game to this point was equal, but just before time was called Wilson for Rangitikei got a goal. The scores were thus Rangitikei 8, Oroua 2. v - The visitors expressed themselves tery pleased both with the ground and game. The left by they 5.25 .tram. - „ . .
