The Road to the Beach.

Slow progress, if indeed'-any" pro*^ gross, is being" made_ as to the exchange of road lines with the Messrs Robinson, though it is the only way a title can be obtained to the one practical road to the beach. The way needs forming but no one chooses to lay out public money until the land becomes public property, the fear, of the Auditor keeping our public men well within, line.. The year is advancing and the beach will again be much frequented,' and for the comfort and convenience of all a better road is necessary. We cannot say who is to blame, for the transfer tvas initiated by the Mayor and he is of the opinion that the Manawatu County Council are delaying matters. The road to the beach we may mention is partly in the hands of the Borough and the County and the.jfc.wo bodies need to work hand-on-hand to 9ave both bother and expense. We have noticed no resolutions passed by the County about this road, and we hope the Mayor will again communicate with them and urge immediate, attention. It is not necessary for us to again point out the advantage such an exchange will be to both public bodies as it is not long since we did so fully, and we believe the bodies are aware of the fact. It appears to be more a case of oversight than anything else, and will be righted at the next meeting, we trust.
