Wednesday, August 15. The Speaker took the chair at 2.80 p.m. The Insurance Companies' Deposit Bill was read a first time. The Companies' Accounts Audit -.„ ■" - third time and Bill was veaa « - passed. Mr W. Hutchison moved : c< That, in order to attain a more correct system of municipal rating within boroughs, the Government should amend the Bating Acts, so as to make it compulsory that the houses and other buildings within every borough shall be valued separately from the lanU on Which these houses and other buildings are erected, assigning its rateable value to each, and setting forth the same distinctly in separate columns in the ratebook*" This was carried; . The second reading of the Law Practitioners Act 1882 Amendment Bill was agreed to. The second reading of the Municipal Franchise Enlargement Bill was carried by 85 votes to 23. The Middle District of New Zealand University College Bill passed through its remaining stages. The Shearei'3* Accommodation Bill passed through committee. Progress was reported on the Tharmacy Bill. The House adjourned at 12.16 a.m. Thubsday, August 16. The Speaker took the chair at 2.80 p.m. The Pohangina County Bill was read a third time and passed. The Levels County Bill passed its final stages. The second reading of the Onehunga Cemetery Bill was agreed to. The Wellington Drainage Bill was considered in Committee, and ordered to be committed again on Monday. The Land for Settlement Bill was committed. The member for the district and the county chairman were struck out of the Board proposed, which will consist only of the Surveyor General, Commissioner of Taxes, and Crown Lands. An addition was made to the clause providing that an owner should have nine months to clear his stock off the land taken under this Act, and an addition to clause 6, providing that within five miles of the four cities the limitation of land held should be reduced to 500 acres was also made. Progress was reported, and the House adjourned at 8.40 a.m.
