The Rev. Robert Cole, M.A.

The Jtev< Hubert Oole, has just resigned the Canoncy of St Ninian's, Perth, on account of persistent bad health. The mention of this clergyman's na'nie must recal old memories to our old settlers as in November 1841 he joined Bishop Selwyn's mission party to New Zealand, where he stayed till 1853. He was stationed at Wellington^ then consisting of but a few buildings. Mr Cole's duties were connected with the Europeans rather than with the

Natives, but on oecassions he ministered to the latter also* His nearest clerical neighbour was 40 miles off* He first began his ministrations in the Court House but when he left there wore two churches in Wellington. He left Mew Zealand in 1853 and assisted his father in his two small parishes of Lonhenholt, Hampshire, and Tidcombe in Wilts. In 1882 ho was elected Synod Clerk, and in 1888 became one of the nonresident canons of Perth Cathedral. He was bora in Hampshire in 1815.
