From the Secretary, stating thai ha had been requested to supply relief to a family at Foxton named Allan, but after visiting them he had requested the, Borough Council, po\ to supply relief, as he was satisfied they were not fit cases for charity. Dv Dernier was appointed au honorary surgeon to the hospital on the motion ot Mr Nye.

Mr Nye expressed the opinion that tb> Allan family Were not sliit&Wfi objects for charitable aid. Mrs Allen had some grown up sona vrho wer* able to support her. The Foxton Borough Council had supplied some relief since the Board met. It was decided to request the Borough Council to cease the supply, and to inform Mrs Allen that she must look to her sons for her support.

The Chairman reported that the new bedeteads had arrived in good order, and they had had been placed in the hospital. He also reported that the Board had received the sum of £17 from patients who had been under treatment.

The Matron reported that since the opening of the hospital until the 31st December last 26 patients had been admitted : 9 discharged, and one died. Out of the nine discharged five have been cured and four relieved.

A discussion took place on two applications received for special treatment at the Hot Lakes, during which the chairman expressed the opinion that it was not the duty of the Charitable Aid Board to .send patients to the Hot Lakes. If such a thing were to become general it would be necessary to raise a loan. — Mr Saxon was also strongly opposed to such a course being pursued. He had no faith in a permanent cure being effected by a visit to the Hot Lakes.— Mr Park also opposed the applications and it was decided not to entertain them.

The Chairman said it would be necessary to strike a. further levy of Is yd per £1000 on each contribute ing body. The reason that the Board were unable to carry on until the end of March was that so much had been spent on the sewer. When the amount so spent wae refunded by the Borough Council » proportionately smaller levy could be struck during that year. He was sorry indeed to have to suggest the levying of a special rate, "but he saw no help for it.
