Notes and Events.

From Panama is reported, some time ago by an English paper, the occurrence of an extraordinary natural phenomenon in the vicinity of the town of Popayan, Colombia, The report states that for several days the inhabitants had been greatly alarmed by .subterranean noises. These continued intermittently, until suddenly a hill near the town, called the Cruizloma, whence the rumblings mostly proceeded, was cleft in two and then broke up completely. Immense volumes of earth were hurled in all directions, Great masses lodged in the beds of Ganchicono, Malino, Blanco, and other rivers, causing obstructions which it is feared may lead to the flooding of the surrounding country and the destruction of valuable estates. The is attributed to the eruption the volcanic Solaria, which has been in a state of activity for several months past. Twelve persons were killed, as were- about 100 head of cattle* beitig struck by falling rocks which were discharged from the hillside^ !_ "/
