A Market Garden.

«• We paid a visit the other day to the market garden started by Mr Joe Tos, one of our business men in Foxton. The locality of the ' garden ' is just past Mr Nye's property and is owned by Mr J. Guenn, who has effected a very satisfactory lease to Mr Tos. The whole area is some forty acres divided into convenient divisions, and has a well built comfortable house within its boundary. It was sometime in September when Mr Tos took over the property, and with the exception of one paddock which had been in potatoes, the land was in grass. It was originally bush and some stumps and logs encumbered the ground. When we visited the garden every acre with the exception of, we think, seven, had been cleared of all logs and stumps, and ploughed, and forming a sort of fence are to be seen the quantities of timber that '

had to be removed. It will be understood that September was very i kte to commence gardening, but power, good management! an d watering has forced the gi'owth surprisingly. We may mention that all garden crops have beeP» and still are, planted at varying 'periods so that there shall be a ; regularly recurring succession. F&' the last few weeks, new potatoes, peas, cucumbers and cabbages have been sent to market. The crops comprise, wheat, oats, maize, potatoes, cabbages, cauliflowers,^ onions, pie melons, water melons?' pumpkins, peas j field peas, and. all the smail crops, as lettuces, radishes and garden herbs. • The whole growth looked splendid and testifies to the care and attention of the gardeners. Onions were certainly a feature, there beinfiTan acre in this vegetable. Cucumbers are in great numbers ,*buis ***' y^ supply has npfr-e«cee<locl the We advice any one interested in gardening to have a look over this property. .
