A White Heron.
« <• On Tuesdi.y Mr Harry Lethbridge noticed a pair of strange birds flying neat his bouse, and thinking they were sea birds brought in by the gole, he shot one for preserving. This proved to be a white heron. These birds are exceedingly rare on this coast, though more plentiful on the west coast of the !■ oufch Island. The Maoris have a j roverb — " He kotuka verenga tahi "- meaning that one only is sern in a lifetime. The feathers of the bird are all of the .pure at snowy white the bill brilliant yellow, and the legs and feet black. It is certainly one of the most beautiful birds we have in New Zealand. Its range is very extended, for it is found all over India, Ceylon, China, in Borneo, airl the islands in the same srn, Siberia, Asia Minor, Europe, even to Great Britain, in Africa, Australia, and Tasmania. The specimen above mentioned will ha set up and added to Mr Drew's already extensive collection.— Herald.
