The attention of the Members aud the General Public- is called to some of tho special features connected with the Society, which is th« oldest Colonial Institution of its kind, Laving been established in the year 1849. Seventh — The deaths amonglives ' assured were C 49 under 785 policies, caiibing claims upon tho Society amounting to £299,602. irrespective of Bonus additions, while the number ex\ ecteil according to the Tables usfd in estimating the liaMhti<s would have been 1143, for an ' amount of £438,976, tbe mortality j experience being thus extremely favourable. Eighth — The receipis from interest an«l rents were £516,882, an nmount exceeding tbe sum paid for the c'aims by £188,952. Ninth — The expenses of management wore only 9.5 per cent, of the total receipts. Tenth — The cash surp'us divided for the year 1889 was £426,494, being at the rate of 41.5 percent, on the premiums received. The operatioiiH of the Society duriDg the 41 years of its existence may be summarised as under — It has issued 141,907 policies, ascuring £49,417)717.
