Davys' Bright Lights.

A Wairarapa paper says : — Davys' Bright Lights Comedy and Novelty Company gave their opening entertainment in the Theatre Eoyal to a large and appreciative audience. The Company, which had just completed a tour of the North Island, Is composed of eight performers, all sterling artistes, and the novelty of the entertainment makes it interesting and amusing. The performance is opened with a laughable musical farce entitled, " The Wrong Man," in which the proprietor of Chrysanthemum Cottage is, in a most peculiar manner, mistaken for a vapid masher (who makes overtures to the wife of the former) and is forcibly ejected from his own house by a costermonger Then follows a song and dance by Miss Georgie Devoe, a pleasing singer and clever dancer. Mr Fred Davys k eeps the audience in roars of laughter by his Irish imand .^ncing, , 'jind Mr % 'Fritz, ' the ;" Swiss' Warbler," receives an enthusiastic encore for hia vocal, rendition. Mr John Tudor andMisa Georgie Devoe appear as a tin-pot band afterwards execute the chaJlehg^^cOiobal]f [dance in a highly creditable manner. Miss Maggie Mas* ters, who has rather '» aupdrior soprano voice, is loudly applauded for her regdl^n^JtaJp^M' air, and Mr Zam Fritz fairly brings down tht bouse with his hnmburous Dutch characters. The feature of the entertainment, however, is the American marionettes, which are made to represent all classes of individuals, from the funny Negro minstrel to the animated skeleton, and delight the audience with their comical though exceedingly clever performance. The entertainment, which throughout is of a most refined nature, is brought to a close by the. exhibition of a number of beautiful transformation soene, with limelight effects.
