Education Board.
*. The monthly meetings of the Education Board were resumed on Tuesday morning Messrs Q. Carson (chairman), Notman, Fry, Beckett, Sanson, Bridge, Hurley, Ross and Baker were present. Election. - The voting papers for the election of three members of the Board were opened, and the result of the voting declared as follows : Rev J. Ross, 67 ; G. Carson, 66 ; J. H. Fry, 66; G. Wilks, 16. Messrs Ross, Carson, and Fry were accord ingly declared elected. Seventy* seven Committees voted, two were late, and two others were informal -Feilding — A complaint of defec . tive \entilation at this school was referred to the architect. Foxton.— Mr Sanson reported that he had visited the Foxton school, and accepted a tender for repairs, involving an expenditure of £22 14s. Considering further applications from the Committee the Board decided to grant £3 towards the purchase of a range, the Committee to meet the expense of fixing, &q ; pound for pound up to £7 was allowed for a new shed, and for the roofiing of the old shed ; 100 white pine rails were also granted. Taikorea. — Mr Sauson's report as to the proposed school at Taikorea was read, and it was resolved, on the motion of Mr Bridge, " That j the report be received, and that Mr Sanson de requested to lay on the table at next meeting the usual statement of the number of children in the district, and that he find out whether the building formerly used as a school is still available as a schoolhouse " j Sandon. — Mr Sanson' s report oi repairs necessary at this school was adopted. Auditors. — On the motion of Mr Fry it was resolved to accept all the names of auditors sent in by School Committees, and that in such cases in which Committees had neglected to send in names of auditors the Secretary of the Board should audit the accounts. Staffing Schools. — Messrs Bridge and Notman made a brief report as to the proposed changes in the staffing of schools, and asked for an extension of time to consider the matter further and report fully at the next meeting. The only recommendation they were then able to make was that as soon as the attendance at a school reaches 40 a pupil teacher shall be provided. — The request was acceded to. Jack^ytown. - The tenders for a residence for this school were not accepted, as they were all of two high a figure. New tenders will be called for. Pupil Teachers' K-xaminations. — The percentage of passes required in the examination for pupil teachers was lowered by 5 per cent , in accordance with the recommendation in the report of the last annual exaraingtion for pupil teachers.
