Mr District Judge rlurricasile is likely to huve a clean sheet, both civil and "crimimil, it the Palmerston Distiict Court sittings on this duy week, Decembpr 21, So far, there is not a single committal for tiial before him, and the only civil case down for hear ing — Osboi'ne v. iioani Meilmnu — a claim arising out of the squabble which culmi-nated-in the imprisonment of Thos. Pearce, has been settled out of Court. It will be j remembered that a quantity of sleepers cut by < >sborne wero detained by Houni .Meihaua, and fur recovery of them the former took proceedings, the amount sued for being £121, made up thus — £109, value of the sleepers, and £10, special damages. Meihana baa, however consented to surrender the sleepers, and pay nil costs. The ciise will therefore bo withdrawn. We are not aware what bankruptcy business will como beforo Mr Hardcastle, but it is quite safe to s.s-ert he will not receive a pair of white gloves through a dearth of business in connection with (hat branch of his Court.
