Voters' Roll.-— Acting on the suggestion recently made in our columns, the Regis • tration officer (Mr Ross) intends to recommend that a Voters' Roll for the Electoral District of Manawatu bo hit on view at. the Otaki Post Office. The first intimation of the faot that reached us was contained in an advertisement in the Wellington
papers, and as tho ?iotiee simply stated plain, _c., could be seen "at Wellington," and furthermore ns no notification of tendrra being invited forthe woi;k was made in tbe Mjfntewatu journals, waq&nduded the Col o__l Architect intended favouringWellingbM carpenters in the matter. We therefore promptly brought the matter under notice of Mr Walter Johnston, M H.R ., and point ed out tho unfairiiflcs of such a coarse. The day after posting the letter, however, we learned' that the plans' had' been received in Foxton, but that owing to the absence of the District Engineer from town no public notification of the fact had been made. Tenders close on 10th July.
Dkamatic. — The recently organised Dra-matie-*Ulub havn put- a pieoe in ■ rehearsal entitled " Trying It Oo," and tbe members ar»J now engaged in active rehearsal. This appears to be a very appropriate title for a new company, and we hope their first " tryon " will be a successful one. Bankrupt. — It is notified in the Wellington papers that Mr Franois Loudon, of Foxton, has been adjudicated a bankrupt. County Council. — The usual monthly sitting of the abovo body was held yesterday. A report of the proceedings appears in another ooluma. - Shobthorns for Manawatu.— -The N. Z. Times of Friday gays: — A very valuable shipment of shorthorn cattle arrived in excellent condition by 'he ship Parnora. from London, yesterday. We are n*>t at present iv a position to give any narticilt— wnh regard to the pedigree ol the animals, nor •Jo we know the name of their breeder, but thoir appearance fully bosptaks theni to be ,of as good blood as the very' best thtt hap ever beon landed at this port The chief attraction amongst these animals is Undoubtedly a r.mn, or red i_d . white ooWy. with a calf of her own color and h x at fco' . The cow appears to bosplon didly built, and 'eaves realty nothing to be wished for. Next to hpr, stands a pure white bally between two or threo ye^rs old, which ha* evidently b^en selected with considerable care. Another yearling bull, roan iv oylo- , hlso gives good promise to grow into a first class animal. Besides theso there are two young roan cows, which are in every resp^o'quite ' fit; for the rest of the company they oame with. The loose boxes in which they stnud have been most carefully prepured for them. ':' hey are thoroughly padded, so that it was almost impossible for any of -the animals to be injured during a rale, while warmth and veutilation were equally well provided for. The shipment comes to thiorder of Mr Larkworthy, and ia intended for his Carnarvon estate, where, under the üble management f-i Mr J. W. Gower. h:has already established thenucl us of an excellent herd.
