OTAKI HIGHWAYS BOARD.
Saturday, May 22, 1880.
An adjourned meeting of the Board took place at 2.30 p.m. . Present—, Messrs ?imcox, (Chairman), J. Keb belJ, J. M'Crae, 4.. J. Hadfield, and Dr. ffewson. . The meeting called for the Ist iv stcint was adjourned,, until the 22nd May owing to there not being a quorum, of Wardens present.. The minutes of previous meeting were read and confirmed. A telegram from Mr Davies was read, applying for leavo of absence. Proposed by Mr Kebbell, seconded by Mr Hadfield, and carried, "That leave of absence for this meeting be granted to Mr Davies." Letter from Mr R Booth,,was.read f requesting that a line of road from Otaki village to his property may be laid off. Proposed by Mr Kebbell, seconded by Mr M'Crae, and carried, " That the Clerk be instructed to inform Mr Booth that the whole matter of district roads will be considered by the Board ; meanwhile, be is referred to a resolution passed by the Board On 20fch March last." Proposed by Mr Kebbell, and carried, that the Board do resolve itself into Committee to consider the road question. In accoulance with a resolution passed by the Board at its last meeting, the Chairman reported that he hud, in connection with Mr Carke,ek, examined the proposed lines of road leading to the River, Otaki. A plan shewing the three lines was laid on the table. Proposed by Mr Kebbell, seconded by Mr Hadfield, and carried, '• That a Committee consisting of the Chairniau, Mr M'Crae, and Dr. Hewson, be authorised to deal with the owners of the land through which No. 3 Line of road runs, so as to acquire said land for a road, and it successful to call for tenders for work thereon. Tetjde^s to be sent in on or before tie n^t meeting of the Board." ■--■■ — Proposed by Mr Kebbell, seconded by Mr Hadfield, and carried, " That Constable Mitchell be allowed to address the Board re nuisance io Qtak^ village." Proposed by Mr M'Ortie,seconded by Dr. Hewson, and carried, " That notice under the ; Publio Health Act be given to Mr Greenough, requiring him to abate the nuisance caused by a drain leading from his premises into a public drain within seven days from receipt of notice." Proposed by Mr M'Crae, seconded by Dr. Hewson, and carried,.." That in the event of Mr Greenough not complying with the notice of the Board to abate' the nuisance caused by the drain leading from bis premises, the Chairman be empowered to ta,ke legal- proceedings against" him." Resolved by the Board, •' That the Clerk be instructed to write to the County Council for a copy of resolution handing over public drains to Highways Boards." ' ;.. ' ;: j Proposed by Mr Kebbell, seconded by Mr M'Crae, and carried, 'V. Thai the Clerk be instructed to procure one cord of firewood for the office of the Board." . ■' " Proposed by Mr Kebbell, seconded by Dr. Hewsqn, and carried,; 'fJThsft the accounts of the Board be referred back to the Clerk to have all sums received (other than rates) included iv the accounts." ; < y Proposed by J.
