Wednesday, Dumber 17, 1879. (Before E. War I, Esq., R.M., Chairman. D. H. Miicarfchur, E,q., J.P., and J. F Kockatrow, Esq., Commissioners.) The Court opened at the Foxton Courthouse at noon on the above day." EMPIRE HOTEL PEILDIXO. Eleven Ballve applied for a licen93 for a building at Feilding, to be called the Empire Hotel. Mr Macleun appjired in support of tho application. The Clerk of the Court stated that an objection had been lodged against the license by Sir Win. Fox, but wai not stamped o?i receipt. He had seen Sir W. Fox aince, and he stated that he did not know, an objection uoeded to ba stamped, but had at once forwarded stamps of the necessary value. Mr 31'iclean said it was evident the re quirements of tho law had not been complied with, and the objection could not therefore bo enteitained. The Clerk also paid Sip Win. Fox had told him he intended being present at the Licensing Court, and asked that tho case ■night bo adjourned until 2 p.m. Mr Maclean stiid the applicant had attended the Court on a previous occasion when tho case was adjourned, and it would be a hardship to huvo the matter again adjourned. The Bench ask«d if Sir Win. Fox had given any assurance that day of his intention of being present. The Clerk replied in the negative, and tho Court decidad to go ou with tho application. Mr Maclean stated he waa prepared to call evidence to prove the necessity of a third hotel at Feilding, but The Court said evidence as to the class building, necessity of a third hotel, &n., had be«n offered before and was unnecessary, Tho Bench at. ouco retired to consider their decision, and after a fuw minutes' absoneo, returned into Court and stated the application was granted. AWAHIMU HoTKL, AW AHUM. C. W. Schultze applied for a lieon.se for the above hotel. Mr Maclean appeared in support of the application, and poiuted out that Mr .Schultze had in tho first pkee lost bis license through a technical informality in during neglected to sand iv his application in time. On a subsequent occasion, the license was refused, owing to tho opposition of a number of natives who were actuated by spite. So objection had been lodged against the liconse, and the police report was not unfavorable to the application. The house was a first-class one, and was in every way suitable for the trade, being in fact one of the best in the district. The license was necessary, both on the grounds of public necessity and publicjconveniencd, as travellers were constantly passing the hotel, which was several miles from any othpr licensed house. No evidence was callod, and after a shoit deliberation the Bench granted the application. An application by M. Samuels for a license for the Awahuri Hotel was wi'.hdrawn. JUNCTION HOTEL, BANBOJJ. The license of the above hotel wus transferred from Thos. linsor to W. M'Girr. Th» concluded the business, and the Court adjourned.
