• (PER PRESS AGENCY.) Cartbrton, Thursday, 7 p.m. T. Gole, County Clerk and Treasurer, tried to commit suicide by cutting his throat at the Marquis of Normanby Hotel. It is not yet known what instrument was used, hut it is supposed to have been a bayonet._ _^H,e is fearfully cut, but the wounds a% not expected to prove fatal. Gole has been a Good Templar some months, but violated his obligation a few days since. Wellington, Thursday, 7 p.m. The House met at 1 1 o'clock this morning, when the Appropriation and Immigration and Public Works Bills went through Committee. In the latter the Government withdrew the objectionable 30th clause, and asked House to give them permission to expend &, sum not exceeding £60,000 on private railways. Six G. Grey said ke should skill oppote the Bill, and when the pioper time came he should address the House at length on the subject. After a good deal of discussion, the House passed a vote of £60,000. The Bill was then read a third time and passed. The House then adjourned until 4 o'clock, at which time it met and again adjourned till 8 o'clock.
