THE NEW TARIFF.

The following nre the resolutions referred to by the Hon. Major Atkinson in bis Financial Statement : — Resolved— That in lien of tho duties of Customs now charged on the undermentioned articles, tha following duties of Customs shall, on and after the 18th day of Novem ber, 1870, ba charged thereon on importation into New Zealand, or on being cleared from any warehouse for home uonsumption, namely : Almond* in the shell,' and nuts of all kinds, except eocoanuts, 2J per lb. Chaff, 10s per ton. Corks, bottling, 15 per cent ad valorem. Fruits, dried, 2d per lb. Fruits, fresh, other than oranges, lemons, bananas, aud pine apples, 15 per cent ad valorem. Glass, crown, sheet, and common window, 2s per lO!'feet puperfioial. f 3 rain and pulse of every kind not otherwise enumerated, 9d per 1001 b. Grain when ground or in any wav manu factored, Is per 10 Jib. Malt, 2s per bushel. Peas, split, Is par cwt. Hops, 6d per lb.. Iron fencing wire, standards, and staples, 20s per ton. Iron, galvanised, corrugated sheets, gutter ing, ridging, and spouting, washers, screws, natts, and wire netting, 40s per ton. Iron tanks, 03 eich. Matches of all kinds, 25 per cent ad valorem. Milk, -preserved, 15 per ceut ad valorem. Nails, -ii per c^fc. Perfumery, and toilet preparations not otherwise enumerated, 25 p.ir cent ad valorem. Propriet«ry mediciue?, commonly called patent medicines, or any medicine or preparation of which the recipe is kept secret, recommended by advertisement, bill, or label, for the relief of any disorder or ailment, 25 per cent ad valorem. Timber, sawn, rough, 2s per 100 feet superficial. Timbsr, sawn, dressed, 4sT>er 100 feet superficial. Timber, shingles and laths, 2s per 1000. Timber, palings 2s per hundred. Timber, posts, 8* per 1 00. Timber, rails, 4s per 100. Salt, 20s per ton. Spirits or strong waters, not being sweetened or mixed <vith any article, so that the degree of strength thereof cannot be ascertained by Sykess hydrometer, for every gallon of tho strength oi" proof by such hydrometer au.l so in proportion for any greater or lesß strength than the strength of proof, and for any greater or less quantity ihan a gallon, lls per proof gallon. All articles not otherwise enumerated which aro now chargeable with duty at 10 per centum ad valorem, 13 per cent ad valorem. Resolved, th;it the duties of Customs chargeable upon the goyds, ware?, and merchandise hereinafter mentioned, imported into Xew Zealand, shall cuaso and determine, : — Almonds, barbary, bitter, and other for confectionery. "Bolts and nuts. Carriage bolts and nuts, tiro bolts, shackle holders, and other iron fitting for carriages Morocco, roan, japanned, and onameled loather, tanned aud dressed seal skins and goat skins. Bugary shafts bent wheel-rims, and other bent carriage timber. Hickory, unwrought. Hatters' galloons and hatters' calicoes. Fine, iron, brass, and copper wiru for use in brush-making. Phosphorus, and oil of rhodium. Sulphate of soda. Saddlers' ironmongery. Grindery. Sheet zinc. Plain sheet galvanised iron.
