♦ (PER PBESS AGENCY.) CnaiSTOHirttcir, Friday. A meeting of the unemployed was heid in Cathedral- square to-day, and it -was resolved to interview Mt. Austin, of the Public Works Department. A large crowd at once adjourned to the public buildings, -when the following resolution was carried : — " We, the undersigned, on behalf of 200 men out of employment in Christchurch , respectfully request the Government to find employment for those not only willing but able to do a fair day's work, and for which they deem they ought to receive 6s per day for such employment, as their experience shows that piecework is not adapted to all parties." In the event of the Government not complying with the supplications, a large "body of the men and their wives and families must be immediately supplied with quarters (through the magistrate or other appointed per- / sens), to keep them from starvation. Mr. Austin promised to communicate with tho Qovernwient.
